CHINESE shipbuilder JES escapes cancellations

CHINESE shipbuilder JES International says that it has had no order cancellations, but is hit by higher materials costs. “We have not received any cancellations of our existing shipbuilding contracts,” said JES chairman and chief executive Jin Xin in the shipbuilder’s thrid quarter results announcement.

Hamworthy delivers first new onboard LNG regasification plant

Hamworthy has supplied the first example of its onboard LNG regasification plant, which is the first of four major LNG vessel installations.  Hamworthy delivered an onboard vaporiser system in July to be installed on the 145,000m3 LNG shuttle regasification vessel (SRV) Suez Neptune. SRVs are designed to transport and store LNG, and then vaporise it into natural gas that can be sent ashore by subsea pipeline.

MOSCOW - The fire safety system on a new Russian nuclear-powered submarine malfunctioned on a test run in the Sea of Japan, spewing chemicals that killed at least 20 people and injured 21 others, officials said Sunday. It was Russia's worst naval accident since torpedo explosions sank another nuclear-powered submarine, the Kursk, in the Barents Sea in 2000, killing all 118 seamen aboard.

Sirius Star was captured by pirates at Somalia coast

The Saudi Arabia-owned supertanker hijacked by Somali pirates in a raid several hundred miles out to sea is understood to have anchored off the coast of Somalia. The Sirius Star, which is fully loaded with crude oil, is understood to be at anchor close to a headland called Raas Cusbad, near Hobyo.
