Maersk takes over management of PUMA’s US distribution network
Maersk has begun managing PUMA’s North American distribution network, covering three highly automated warehouses with a combined footprint of approximately 2.3 million square feet.
The facilities are located in California, Arizona and Indiana. They support orders for PUMA’s retail stores, wholesale customers and e-commerce operations.
The agreement expands a long-standing partnership that already covers ocean and air freight, inland transportation, customs services, warehousing and fulfilment.
Three automated distribution centres
Maersk will operate the following facilities:
| Location | Facility size |
|---|---|
| Torrance, California | Approximately 672,000 square feet |
| Phoenix, Arizona | Approximately 1.02 million square feet |
| Whitestown, Indiana | Approximately 636,000 square feet |
All three sites use AutoStore automated storage and retrieval technology.
The system stores inventory within a compact grid and uses robots to transport goods to employees for picking and packing. This reduces manual handling and travel within the warehouse while improving space utilisation and order-processing speed.
“Together with PUMA, we’re creating a more flexible and scalable fulfilment network that helps keep products moving quickly to stores and consumers,” said Dave Hune, North America Head of Maersk Contract Logistics.
Torrance facility to support other brands
From 2027, Maersk plans to make capacity at the Torrance facility available to other brands requiring automated order fulfilment near major air and ocean gateways.
The site will become Maersk North America’s first AutoStore deployment supporting multi-client operations. It will be capable of handling approximately 20 million units annually.
The model will allow Maersk to use available network capacity for additional customers while improving the utilisation of PUMA’s existing infrastructure.
“At PUMA, delivering a seamless experience for our consumers and retail partners requires a supply chain that is agile, efficient and built for growth,” said Helmut Leibbrand, Senior Vice President Supply Chain Management and Logistics Americas at PUMA.
“This next phase of our partnership strengthens our ability to move products more efficiently across channels, improve responsiveness to changing demand and create greater value from the investments we’ve made in our US distribution infrastructure.”
