Construction begins on unmanned mine countermeasures package for Indonesian Navy

Exail also said it expects possible follow-on business in Indonesia. This could include additional system purchases and upgrades to the Iindonesian Navy's existing mine warfare equipment and platforms.

The contract between Indonesia and Exail was announced in June 2025 following an international tender, with execution expected over three years. All systems will be remotely operated from the host vessels and coordinated through a command-and-control centre running Exail's patented software.

The package is intended for KRI Pulau Fani and KRI Pulau Fanildo, two MCM vessels built by Germany’s Abeking and Rasmussen and commissioned on August 14, 2023. Both ships were designed with space to carry and deploy unmanned MCM vehicles, along with the equipment needed to support them.

Each USV will measure 9.2 metres long and will be powered by two diesel engines driving waterjets. Exail listed a payload capacity of up to 900 kg, a maximum speed of 32 knots, and an endurance of up to 40 hours.
