Cavotec wins €5 million automated mooring order at JNPA
Cavotec has secured an order worth approximately €5 million to supply an automated mooring system at Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai.
The project will mark the first deployment of automated mooring technology in India.
Cavotec will deliver its MoorMaster NxG automated vacuum mooring system to the GTI terminal, operated by APM Terminals.
Delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.
Automated mooring targets faster vessel turnaround
The customer for the project is Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), which operates one of India’s largest container ports.
The MoorMaster NxG system uses automated vacuum technology for vessel mooring.
According to Cavotec, the system will help GTI improve berth productivity and operational efficiency. It is also designed to improve worker safety.
“The introduction of automated mooring at JNPA marks an important step in our journey towards safer, more efficient and technology-driven port operations,” said Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairperson of JNPA.
He added that faster and safer berthing and unberthing will support improved vessel turnaround.
Cavotec targets India’s port automation market
Cavotec sees further opportunities as Indian ports invest in modernisation and automation.
“India is an essential market for Cavotec, with significant investments being made in port modernisation and automation,” said David Pagels, CEO of Cavotec.
“This order is an important reference for us and demonstrates the potential of our MoorMaster technology as the ports in India accelerate their investment,” he added.
Cavotec already has a presence at JNPA. Its cable reel systems are installed across the port’s terminals.
The latest order expands that relationship into automated vessel mooring and represents a new step in the adoption of port automation technology in India.
