Manta Marine Technologies (MMT) and Foreship by RINA have signed a framework agreement covering the delivery of air lubrication technology
Manta Marine Technologies (MMT) and Foreship by RINA have signed a framework agreement covering the delivery of air lubrication technology for both retrofit and newbuild projects.
Under the agreement, MMT will take responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of Manta Air Lubrication, a solution based on Foreship’s air lubrication system design. According to the companies, the technology has already been installed on more than 25 vessels.
As part of the cooperation, MMT will manage feasibility studies, design and engineering, installation, commissioning, performance verification and lifecycle support.
Foreship will continue to provide Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis and engineering expertise during the feasibility stage to assess technical suitability, optimise system configuration and estimate expected performance.
The agreement aims to address some of the challenges associated with the adoption of air lubrication systems, including vessel integration, project complexity and uncertainty over achievable efficiency gains.
Aleksander Askeland, CFO of Manta Marine Technologies, said the cooperation would combine air lubrication technology with MMT’s system delivery and integration capabilities.
Jan-Erik Räsänen, Marine Energy Transition Executive Director at Foreship, added that Foreship’s hydrodynamic expertise and CFD methodology would support shipowners in assessing and implementing the technology.
Air lubrication is among the energy-efficiency measures being considered by shipowners seeking to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while responding to increasingly stringent decarbonisation requirements.
Manta Air Lubrication was officially launched during SMM Hamburg on 1 September 2026.
