DP World extends Luanda terminal concession to 2051, plans $90m expansion

“The ability to handle larger vessels will support new shipping services and strengthen the terminal’s potential as a gateway for West and Central Africa,” said Mohammed Akoojee, CEO and Managing Director Africa for DP World.

DP World said it has invested more than US$260 million in upgrades and modernisation at the Luanda terminal since it began operating the facility in 2021.

The company reported that terminal container throughput had nearly doubled over the past five years, rising from 177,000 to more than 350,000 TEUs.

The terminal’s yard area has expanded by 28,000 square metres. In 2026, two more mobile harbour cranes and an empty handler were acquired, taking the mobile harbour crane fleet to eight. Reefer plugs have also risen from 630 to 700.
