MSC Hannah III rescues 10 crew from sinking vessel off Cyprus
MSC Hannah III rescued all 10 crew members from the Tanzanian-flagged commercial vessel AS Dream after it began sinking west of Cyprus.
The Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) received information about the emergency at 20:15 on 30 October. AS Dream was approximately 90 nautical miles west of Cyprus, within the country’s Search and Rescue Region.
JRCC Larnaca activated Cyprus’ national search-and-rescue plan, Nearchos. The response included a helicopter from the Cyprus National Guard’s 460 Search and Rescue Squadron, the patrol vessel CNS Ammochostos and the rescue boat Pentadaktylos.
The nearby MSC Hannah III also joined the operation and rescued all crew members from AS Dream. The seafarers were later transferred to Pentadaktylos and transported to Limassol Port.
Ambulance Service paramedics examined the rescued crew after their arrival and confirmed that they were in good health. The seafarers were subsequently handed over to the relevant Cypriot authorities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also informed the relevant embassies about the incident and the arrangements for the rescued crew members.
